Short answer: a Discord sales bot starts conversations that members choose to begin, asks qualifying questions, answers common questions, sends a payment link and saves every lead to your CRM. A moderation bot only keeps order. In Mavibot one bot does both: community rules in Chat management and sales scenarios in the builder.
Sales bot or moderation bot
A moderation bot keeps a server in order. It welcomes new members, gives roles, removes spam and runs leveling. MEE6 is a well-known example. It does not talk to prospects.
A sales bot talks to prospects. It asks what a member needs, answers questions, sends a payment link, hands a warm lead to a person and saves the contact. A server that sells a course, a membership or a service usually needs both jobs done.
Mavibot covers both in one place, so you don't have to run two bots that react to the same messages. If you are still choosing a platform, see the best no-code Discord bot builders.
What a Mavibot Discord bot can do
Mavibot has two places for a Discord bot.
-
In Chat management (Builder, then Chat management, then Discord) you set up the server without code: auto-moderation, greetings and farewells, auto roles, reaction roles, levels and XP, and slash commands.
-
In the builder (Builder, then Chat bots) you build conversations. The bot replies in channels, threads and direct messages, adds reactions, sends and receives files, works with buttons and slash commands, asks questions, saves the answers and adds leads to your CRM.
-
The AI assistant answers members in 14 languages. It works on paid plans and during the trial.

Advanced users can also call Discord functions directly in a block, for example to assign a role, send a direct message or create a channel. The full list is in the documentation, Discord API Functions (updated August 2026).
How to set up a Discord bot in Mavibot
The documentation says the setup takes about ten minutes. It has two parts: creating the bot on Discord's side and connecting it in Mavibot. The full guide is in the documentation, How to Create a Chatbot in Discord (updated January 2026), and there is a step-by-step version on our blog, how to create a Discord bot with Mavibot.
-
In the Discord Developer Portal, create an application, add a bot to it, turn off Public Bot and copy the token with Reset Token. The token is shown once, so save it and keep it private.
-
In the Bot section, turn on Message Content Intent and Server Members Intent. Discord calls them privileged intents, and its gateway documentation explains them. Without the first one text triggers don't work, and without the second one greetings and automatic roles don't work.
-
In Mavibot, open Channels, click Discord and paste the token. After a few seconds the bot appears online on your server.
-
Add the bot to your server with the link from OAuth2, then URL Generator. Give it only the permissions it needs, for example Manage Roles if it assigns roles, and place the bot's role above the roles it will assign.
-
Open Builder, then Chat management, then Discord. Choose your bot and paste the server ID. To copy an ID, turn on Developer Mode in Discord, then use Copy ID in the context menu.
If you want to try the builder first, start from the Discord bot builder page.
Set up server management without code
Each page of Chat management has its own switch, so you can turn on only what you need.
The Greetings page has two parts. Welcome newcomers sends a message when a member joins the server. You can use #{name} and #{username} in the text, and choose where to send it, for example to a channel. Farewell sends a message when a member leaves. Discord treats leaving and being kicked as the same event, so the bot can't tell them apart.

On the Auto roles page, add the roles that every new member gets automatically on join. You enter each role by its ID or name.

On the Reaction roles page, enter the ID of one message, then add pairs of an emoji and a role, which you can enter by ID or by name. A member who adds the reaction under that message gets the role.

On the Moderation page, choose the bot and the server or channel, then switch on the rules you need: a profanity and word filter with your list of banned words, a limit on CAPS and emoji, and a filter for links and invites with a whitelist. A violation deletes the message and sends a warning. You can add custom rules and exceptions.

The Logs page keeps the history of penalties and deleted messages automatically, with the member and the reason.

On the Levels & XP page, members earn XP when someone thanks them. You list the words of gratitude, several at once separated by semicolons, and set how much XP they give. A member writes one of these words as a reply, and the person who got the reply receives the points. A cooldown limits how often one member can award XP. Members check their points with /xp, and level rewards give a role when a member reaches the level you set.

The Commands page covers slash commands and auto replies. /xp and /top (a leaderboard by XP) are built in, and you can add your own commands that reply or run an action, with an option to limit a command to administrators. Discord registers slash commands on the server automatically when you save.

Three sales scenarios you can build
Discord's developer policy asks bots not to contact users without their explicit permission and not to target users with advertising or marketing (see the rules below). That is why these scenarios start with something the member does. The server in the examples is made up for the demo.
-
A member asks to start. A pinned message in a #start-here channel has a button, or members use a slash command. The bot opens a conversation, asks two questions, such as "What do you want to learn first?" and "How much experience do you have?", saves the answers and adds the member to your CRM as a lead. If the lead looks ready, the bot calls a person from your team.
-
A member buys access. The bot sends a payment link. The customer pays on the payment provider's page and returns, and the scenario continues in the next block. There you can assign the paid role with the discord_add_role function from the documentation. Test it with a cheap product before launch, and remember that the bot's role must stay above the role it gives. For free tiers you can use reaction roles or level rewards instead.
-
A member needs help. A button or a slash command creates a private ticket channel for the member and your team. The AI assistant, on a paid plan or during the trial, answers common questions first, and a person takes over when needed. The documentation has a ready example of a ticket channel created from a button.
Discord rules to follow
-
Discord's Developer Policy, last updated June 6, 2024 and checked in October 2026, asks apps not to contact users without explicit permission and not to target users with advertising or marketing. Build scenarios that the member starts and keep every message relevant.
-
A bot can send a direct message only to a member who shares a server with it and has not turned off direct messages from server members. Discord sets this limit and it can't be bypassed.
-
A bot can't assign a role that is at or above its own role in the server's role list, so put the bot's role higher. Discord describes how roles and permissions interact in its permissions documentation.
-
Keep the Interactions Endpoint URL field in the Developer Portal empty. If it is filled, buttons and slash commands stop reaching the bot.
How much it costs
You can start on the free plan with no credit card, and Chat management is available on it. The plans:
-
Free plan, $0: 50 bot messages a day.
-
Business, $39 a month: up to 10,000 bot messages a day and up to 1,000 emails a day.
-
Mavibot AI, $59 a month: everything in Business, plus Mavi, an AI employee for sales.
The AI assistant works on paid plans and during the trial. New accounts get a trial of the top plan: 3 days, or 10 days with the promo code MAVI10. The prices come from the pricing page and may change.

Frequently asked questions
What is a Discord sales bot?
A Discord sales bot talks to members on your server, asks qualifying questions, answers common questions, sends payment links and passes leads to your CRM or your team. A moderation bot is different: it keeps order with rules, roles and filters.
How does a Discord bot capture leads?
The bot asks questions in a conversation, saves the answers and adds the contact to your CRM as a lead. Your team then sees each lead with the answers, and a person can take over when the lead is ready to buy.
Can one bot handle moderation and sales?
Yes. In Mavibot, Chat management handles moderation, greetings, roles, levels and commands, and the builder handles conversations and sales scenarios. If you already use another moderation bot, make sure two bots don't react to the same trigger.
Can the bot message new members privately?
Yes, within Discord's limits. The bot can send a direct message only to a member who shares a server with it and has not turned off direct messages from server members. Discord's developer policy also asks bots not to contact users without explicit permission, so start the conversation from a button or a command that the member uses.
Can the bot assign roles?
Yes. The bot can give roles automatically when a member joins, for a reaction or for reaching a level. It needs the Manage Roles permission, and its own role must be above the roles it assigns.
Can I sell access to my Discord server with a bot?
You can build it in the builder. The bot sends a payment link, the customer pays on the provider's page and returns, and the next block assigns the paid role with the discord_add_role function. Test the scenario with a cheap product first.
Does the AI assistant work on the free plan?
No. The AI assistant works on paid plans and during the trial: 3 days, or 10 days with the promo code MAVI10.
Which languages does the AI assistant support?
The AI assistant works in 14 languages.
What are Discord's rules for bots that message users?
Discord's developer policy asks apps not to contact users without explicit permission and not to target users with advertising or marketing. Build scenarios that members start themselves, keep messages relevant and don't send messages in bulk.
